Central PSUs under the power ministry have met 63.4 per cent of their annual capex target for FY22, so far.

According to a government release based on information tabled in Parliament, the annual capital expenditure (capex) target for all CPUs falling under the power ministry has been set at Rs.50,690 crore.

Out of this, the aggregate capex till end-November 2021 was Rs. 32,137 crore, implying that 63.4 per cent of the annual target has been met in the first eight months of FY22.

During the previous year, FY21, the capital expenditure achievement till November 2020 was 49.3 per cent, the release said. The actual capex during that period was Rs.22,127 crore.

It therefore follows that Central power PSUs have performed better in FY22 than in FY21, both in terms of actual capex incurred and annual capex achievement.

Central schemes

Over and above the Rs.32,137 crore worth of capital expenditure incurred by Central power PSUs, the Union power ministry has also spent around Rs.3,491 during FY22 (up to November 2021) on several Centrally-sponsored development schemes. This includes Rs.1,594 crore on Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS), Rs.1,007 crore on Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) and Rs.890 crore on power transmission schemes for the northeastern region.

Combining the two modes, the power ministry has invested a total of Rs.35,627 crore on infrastructure development during the April-November period of FY22.
