ReNew Power on track to attain 8.2 GW operational capacity by end-FY22

ReNew Power, in a release, said that it was on track to attain its targeted cumulative operational renewable energy capacity of 8.2 GW by end of FY22.

During FY22 so far, ReNew Power has commissioned 1.5 GW worth of renewable energy projects. This was despite challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic and supply chain disruptions.

The latest addition to its portfolio was a 300-mw solar power project won under the Tranche-6 auction of Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). The solar PV plant was commissioned at Fatehgarh in Rajasthan.

Additions during FY22 so far include a series of solar projects including 1.2 GW in Rajasthan, 105 mw in Gujarat and 20 mw in Maharashtra. In the wind sector, over 150 mw has been installed, comprising 136 mw in Karnataka and 22 mw in Gujarat. Capacity additions in FY22 are expected to offset over 75,000 million tonnes of CO2 emissions, ReNew Power said.

 

ReNew Power had closed FY21 with a cumulative operational capacity of 5.6 GW.

 

Speaking about the capacity addition, Chairman and CEO of ReNew, Sumant Sinha, said: “ReNew continues to be at the heart of India’s transformation as a clean energy leader. The major organic addition of 1.5 GW of renewable energy projects this fiscal year and the fact that we have crossed 7 GW of commissioned capacity shows we are well on track to achieve our aspirational goal of 18 GW by FY25. We will further intensify our efforts to help India achieve its climate goals, including meeting half of its energy needs through renewables, and also develop green hydrogen.”

SECI Tranche-6 auction

It may be mentioned that the SECI Tranche-6 auction discussed above saw the award of 900 mw of solar capacity to three developers – ReNew Power, Avaada Energy and Mayasa Solar, each winning 300 mw at a tariff of Rs.2.71 per kwh. SECI had targeted to award a total of 1,200 mw in this auction, which concluded in October 31, 2019.
