ReNew Transmission Ventures is seeking transmission licence for two interstate transmission system (ISTS) schemes that it has been awarded through the regulated tariff mechanism (RTM) route.
In recent orders, Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has directed Renew Transmission Ventures Pvt Ltd to publish a public notice inviting suggestions/objections to the grant of transmission licence and file the same before CERC by April 5, 2024. The petition is scheduled to come up for next hearing on April 10, 2024.
The two RTM projects are being developed by “Koppal-Narendra Transmission Ltd” and “Gadag Transmission Ltd”. Both these entities are wholly-owned subsidiaries of ReNew Transmission Ventures and are developing ISTS schemes under the TBCB route. The RTM schemes envisage augmentation of infrastructure created under these ISTS-TBCB projects.
Here are details of the two RTM projects under discussion:
Implementing agency: Koppal-Narendra Transmission Ltd
Project: Augmentation of transformation capacity at 400/200kV Koppal pooling station in Karnataka by 1×500 MVA, 400/200 kV ICT (6th)
Cost: Rs.57.59 crore
Completion: June 30, 2025 (approximate)
Implementing agency: Gadag Transmission Ltd
Project: Augmentation of transformation capacity at 400/200kV Gadag pooling station in Karnataka by 1×500 MVA, 400/200 kV ICT (6th)
Cost: Rs.57.59 crore
Completion: June 30, 2025 (approximate)
Underlying TBCB projects
Koppal-Narendra Transmission Ltd is developing an ISTS-TBCB scheme termed as “Evacuation of power from RE sources in Koppal Wind Energy Zone (Karnataka) (2,500 mw)”. This scheme involves, among other elements, the creation of the 2,500 MVA Koppal pooling station in Karnataka (with five ICTs of 500 MVA each) and the 400kV double-circuit Koppal-Narendra line of 276 ckm. Incidentally, this TBCB scheme was fully commissioned in January 2024.
The ISTS-TBCB scheme developed by Gadag Transmission Ltd is called “Transmission Scheme for Solar Energy Zone in Gadag (1,000 mw), Karnataka – Part A (Phase I)”. This scheme is currently under implementation and is scheduled to commission by April 2024. One major element of this scheme is the 1,000 MVA Gadag Pooling Station in Karnataka, to be achieved by installing two 500 MVA interconnecting transformers (ICTs) – the first and second — at the pooling station.
This explains why the RTM project of Gadag Transmission Ltd, discussed above, would involve setting up of the sixth ICT at Gadag Pooling Station. (See table)
Incidentally, the ISTS-TBCB scheme under “Gadag II-A Transmission Ltd” is in advanced stage of completion and is expected to commission by May 2024.
