ReNew Transmission Ventures wins its second TBCB scheme

AC lines, Brazil

ReNew Transmission Ventures has won a transmission scheme in Karnataka under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) mechanism. This is the second TBCB win for ReNew, following the Koppal-Narendra transmission project in December 2021.

In a recent stock exchange filing, bid process coordinator REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL) said that it has transferred the project special purpose vehicle “Gadag Transmission Ltd” to ReNew Transmission Ventures Pvt Ltd – the successful bidder selected under the TBCB mechanism.

The scheme to be developed by Gadag Transmission Ltd is officially termed as “Transmission Scheme for Solar Energy Zone in Gadag (2,500 mw), Karnataka – Part A”.

Seven bidders

It is reliably learnt that seven bidders were technically qualified for submitting the price bids and ReNew Transmission was awarded the project after the price bids, and the e-reverse auction process. The six other bidders in the fray included Adani Transmission, GR Infraprojects, Megha Engineering & Infrastructures, Power Grid Corporation of India, Sterlite Grid 15 and Torrent Power. Incidentally, GR Infraprojects recently made its debut in the power transmission development space by winning Rajgarh Transmission Ltd under the TBCB modality.

Two phases

According to bid documents available with RECPDCL, the overall project will be implemented in two phases, aiming at evacuation of 1,000 mw and 1,500 mw, respectively. The key elements to be constructed in the overall project include the 5×500 MVA 400/220kV Gadag pooling station (in two phases), a 400kV double-circuit line from Gadag PS to Narendra PS, a 400kV double-circuit line from Gadag PS to Koppal PS, etc.

12 project SPVs

In February 2022, the board of REC approved the formation of 12 project special purpose vehicles for the development of transmission schemes for renewable energy evacuation, under the TBCB mode.

According to information available with T&D India, the bidding process of at least five schemes is underway. These five schemes are:

  1. Transmission system for evacuation of power from Neemuch SEZ
  2. Establishment of Khavda PS-2 in Khadva RE Park
  3.  Establishment of Khavda PS-3 in Khadva RE Park
  4. Transmission system for evacuation of power from REZ in Rajasthan (20 GW) under Phase-III (Part C1)
  5. Transmission system for evacuation of power from REZ in Rajasthan (20 GW) under Phase-III (Part D)

(Note: PS = Pooling Station; SEZ = Solar Energy Zone; REZ = Renewable Energy Zone)
