A new interstate transmission system (ISTS) scheme for integrating 3 GW from the Ananthapuram-II REZ in Andhra Pradesh has been proposed for development under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) mode.
In a recent meeting, the National Committee on Transmission (NCT) has cleared an ISTS scheme termed as “Transmission system for integration of Ananthapuram-II REZ – Phase II (3 GW)” with an estimated project outlay of Rs.3,339 crore.
REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL) has been named as the bid process coordinator, and the scheme is envisaged to complete in stages between 24 months and 30 months from the date of formal transfer of the project SPV.
The major elements of this scheme that will straddle Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka will include:
The scheme seeks to honour ISTS connectivity applications of about 4,277 MW at Ananthapuram-II PS. These applications were received during the period October-December 2024. This is in addition to about 3,759 MW of connectivity already granted/agreed for grant at the said pooling station.
Ananthapuram-II PS is coming up through a separate ISTS-TBCB scheme called “Transmission system for integration of Ananthapuram-II REZ – Phase I (4.5 GW)” that was recently won by Resonia Ltd. The project SPV “Anantapur II REZ Transmission Ltd” was handed over by bid process coordinator PFC Consulting Ltd to Resonia Ltd, on March 31, 2025.
Ananthapuram-II PS, after the completion of Phase-I and Phase-II, will be able to integrate around 7.5 GW of RE power. It is further learnt that connectivity applications beyond 7.5 GW will be considered under a separate scheme (Phase III).
Scheme: Transmission system for integration of Ananthapuram-II REZ – Phase I (4.5 GW)
Status: Awarded to Resonia Ltd under TBCB
Scheme: Transmission system for integration of Ananthapuram-II REZ – Phase II (3 GW)
Status: Proposed for development under TBCB
Together, these two schemes will help integration of 7.5 GW of RE power into the ISTS network. RE integration beyond 7.5 GW will be taken up through a separate scheme in future.
