SJVN Green Energy Ltd (SGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN Ltd, undertook this initiative in association with SBI Capital Markets Ltd (SBICAPS) that acted as the sole advisor and arranger for the transaction on behalf of SGEL, a release by SJVN said. Salzer Electronics has increased its equity stake from 26 per cent to 60 per cent in its joint venture “Salzer Kostad EV Chargers Pvt Ld” with Austrian firm Kostad Steuerungsbau GmbH. The Power Transmission & Distribution business of L&T Construction, a brand of Larsen & Toubro, has secured key orders in the Middle East region. In the United Arab Emirates, the business has received an order for engineering, supply, construction, installation, testing and commissioning a 400/132kV Substation. The scope also includes associated transformer, reactor and substation control & monitoring systems (SCMS). In Kuwait, the business has won an order to establish 400kV overhead transmission lines along with associated 400kV underground cable interconnections. This transmission segment of more than 100-km route length will help to evacuate and generate power. Suzlon Group has announced a new order win for the development of a 300-mw wind power project for Apraava Energy Pvt Ltd. Suzlon will install 100 wind turbine generators (WTGs) with a Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) tower and a rated capacity of 3 mw each at the client’s site in Karnataka. This order is for the company’s larger rated 3 MW, S144-140m turbines from the 3 MW product series. As part of the agreement, Suzlon will supply the wind turbines (equipment supply) and supervise the project including commissioning. Suzlon will also undertake comprehensive operations and maintenance services post-commissioning. (December 28, 2023)
GE Power India has reported the winning of an order from NTPC for procurement of spares for carrying out class-B Inspection of Unit 1 GE-make 660 mw generator at NTPC Solapur. Another order was received from Bokaro Power Supply Company (P) Ltd — a JV between Steel Authority of India and Damodar Valley Corporation — for supply of spares for turbine-generator (#8) at BPSCL. The total value of the two orders is Rs.20.38 crore, excluding GST. (December 28, 2023)
Hinduja Renewables has won a bid to set up 140-mw power capacity in a tender issued by GUVNL at a tariff rate of Rs.2.64 per kwh. This has a potential to increase to 280 mw as GUVNL may allow additional capacity 140 mw by exercising the greenshoe option. The award is part of the Solar Tender Phase -XXII issued by GUVNL for selection of solar power developers for setting up 500 mw solar power projects anywhere in India. Hinduja Renewables was one of the four winning developers under this tender which saw a participation from leading IPPs, Hinduja Renewables said in a release. (December 27, 2023)
Suzlon Group has announced the winning of two independent orders for the supply of wind turbines. Under the first, Suzlon will supply 48 wind turbines of 2.1 mw each, aggregating 100.8 mw, to Mahindra Susten for a project in Maharashtra. The second order from an unnamed Nordic energy company involves 32 wind turbines of 3.15 mw each, totaling 100.8 mw, for a wind farm in Karnataka. Both the wind projects will supply electricity to C&I consumers in the respective states. (December 27, 2023)
Apraava Energy has secured a 300-mw wind energy project in Aski, Karnataka. The project is part of the 1,200-mw auction capacity of ISTS-connected wind power projects (Tranche-XIV) from Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). The construction of the project will be completed within the stipulated timelines as per PPA, which is for a period of 25 years at a competitive tariff of Rs.3.24 per kwh. (December 27, 2023)
Hartek Power Pvt Ltd, the power system and T&D business unit of Hartek Group, has announced the successful acquisition of a Rs.32-crore contract from SPRNG Energy (100 per cent owned by Shell) for the establishment of a 33kV/400kV pooling substation. This substation will play a crucial role in supporting a 300-mw solar power plant at Ramsan Village, Taluka Deesa, District Banaskantha, Gujarat. (December 27, 2023)
SJVN Green Energy Ltd (SGEL) has secured a 100-mw solar power project through e-RA conducted by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL), at a tariff of Rs.2.63 per kwh. The project, estimated to cost Rs.550 crore and expected to commission in 18 months, will supply electricity to GUVNL under a 25-year PPA. SGEL can set up the project at any location in India. Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) has announced the completion of its JV with TotalEnergies. As part of the JV, TotalEnergies invested $300 million in AGEL subsidiary, for acquiring 50 per cent stake in various projects. This follows the binding agreement about the JV announced between AGEL and TotalEnergies in September 2023. The JV houses a 1,050-mw portfolio comprising a mix of already operational (300 mw), under construction (500 mw) and under development assets (250 mw) with a blend of both solar and wind power projects in India. Inox Wind Ltd has bagged an order from a large unnamed C&I player for IWL’s latest 3-mw wind turbine generators, aggregating 279 mw. The scope of the order comprises of a mix of equipment supply with limited scope EPC for 180 mw and end-to-end turnkey execution for 99 mw. Additionally, Inox Wind will also provide post commissioning multi-year operations & maintenance (O&M) services. The project will be executed by June 2025, with the WTGs being installed across Rajasthan and Gujarat. This repeat order is from a large C&I customer for which Inox Wind has already executed around 325 mw of orders till date, Inox Wind said in a release. (December 26, 2023)
JSW Renew Energy Ltd, a wholly-owned step-down subsidiary of JSW Energy Ltd, has started phase-wise commissioning of the 810-mw ISTS-connected wind power project awarded under SECI Tranche IX in Tamil Nadu with commissioning of the first phase of 51 mw. The project has a 25-year PPA with SECI. The company’s total current installed capacity now becomes 6,822 mw while another 2,969 mw is under construction and likely to be commissioned over the next 12 months. The company has targeted 20 GW of generation capacity and 40 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2030. (December 26, 2023)
PFC Consulting Ltd has incorporated a wholly-owned subsidiary “Khavda PS1 and 3 Transmission Ltd” that would act as the project SPV for developing an ISTS scheme officially described as “Provision of Dynamic Reactive Compensation at Khavda Pooling Station 1 (KPSl) and Khavda Pooling Station 3 (KPS3)”. PFCCL is the bid process coordinator for this scheme and would be selecting the developer using the TBCB modality. PFCCL, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Power Finance Corporation Ltd, will subsequently transfer the said project SPV to the successful bidder. (December 23, 2023)
NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd has secured the bid for 900 mw capacity in the solar tender floated by PFCCL on behalf of NTPC Ltd. for selection of 1,250 mw ISTS-connected solar PV power projects in India under “Flexibility Scheme”. The reverse auction for the tender was conducted on December 21, 2023 by PFCCL. The discovered tariff is Rs.2.53 per kwh and the energy generated shall be procured by NTPC Ltd. This is envisioned to replace thermal power through existing PPAs of NTPC Ltd. with various discoms. (December 23, 2023)
REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL) has incorporated a wholly-owned subsidiary “Kankani Power Transmission Ltd” that would be developing an intrastate power transmission scheme in Rajasthan, known as “Rajasthan Intra-state Transmission Package 3 (P3)”. As bid process coordinator appointed by Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Ltd, RECPDCL will select a developer for the project under the TBCB modality and transfer the said project SPV to the successful bidder so selected. Suzlon Group has announced a new order win for the development of a 193.2 MW wind power project for The KP Group. This will be part of wind-solar hybrid and state transmission utility tariff-based project for increasing renewable energy contribution in the state of Gujarat. Suzlon will supply 92 units of their S120 – 2.1MW wind turbine generators (WTGs) with a 140m Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) tower at Vagra and Vilayat in Bharuch district of Gujarat. Suzlon will execute the project with a scope of supply, supervision, and commissioning. Additionally, Suzlon will also undertake post-commissioning operation and maintenance services. Transformers & Rectifiers (India) Ltd [TRIL] has announced the winning of a Rs.219-crore order from Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd for thirteen 110 MVAR, 765kV, 1-phase reactors; two 125 MVAR 420kV, 3-phase reactor; and, six 110 MVAR 765kV, 1-phase reactors. The order is to be completed within 15 months, TRIL said. (December 20, 2023)
Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL), in a stock exchange filing, announced that it has incorporated a wholly-owned subsidiary “Arasan Infra Two Ltd” on December 19, 2023. Transformers & Rectifiers (India) Ltd [TRIL] reported the winning of a Rs.118-crore order from Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Ltd for the supply of five units of 500 MVA, 400/220/33kV transformers, including accessories. Suzlon Group has announced the execution of definitive documents for securing working capital facilities with REC Ltd. Suzlon will utilise this facility for meeting working capital requirements for the execution of its current order book and future order pipeline, Suzlon said in a release. This will enable the Company to ensure faster ramp-up of its operations and improve the utilisation of its installed capacities. Vikram Solar has signed an agreement to supply 152 mw worth of high-efficiency crystalline bifacial solar PV modules to NTPC, under the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) stipulation. Shakti Pumps (India) Ltd has received a patent for inventing “Helical Pump Assembly.” This patent is set to maintain its validity for duration of 20 years, commencing from the date of filing. The patented positive-displacement pump promises a 50 per cent reduction in necessary solar panels for water requirements, serving as a sustainable alternative to manual hand pumps in remote areas for drinking water, a release by Shakti Pumps said. Otis India, in a release, said that it has supplied 29 escalators, 50 elevators, two dumb waiters and 26 moving walks (travelators) —a total of 107 units — to the newly inaugurated, state-of-the-art Terminal 2 at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (BLR Airport). Each unit is designed with a focus on passenger experience and uses regenerative drives for energy-efficient operation. The new terminal is expected to handle 25 million passengers annually. Essar, in a release, said that has signed an MOU with the Gujarat government to develop a 1-GW green hydrogen project, with an estimated investment of Rs.30,000 crore. BluPine Energy has announced financial closure for its 120-mw solar project in Gujarat, secured under the GUVNL 16 tender. The green loan financing for the project has been secured through Standard Chartered. The total investment for this project is Rs.665 crore. Waaree Energies Ltd has partnered with IRCON Renewable Power Ltd. to supply over 200 MW of DCR-category solar PV modules. IRCON Renewable Power Ltd., a subsidiary of IRCON International Ltd, is setting up a 500-mw grid-connected solar PV project, awarded by Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd (IREDA). SJVN has synchronized the second unit of its 2×30-mw Naitwar Mori hydropower project with the National Grid. The project is located on River Tons, a tributary of River Yamuna in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. The first unit of 30 mw is already generating ommercially since November 24, 2023. SJVN has constructed a 37-km 220kV transmission line for evacuation of power from Naitwar Mori HEP from Bainol to Snail. (November 30, 2023)
Tata Power EV Charging Solutions Ltd has signed an MoU with Kanpur Municipal Corporation to install 12 EV charging stations across six strategic locations in Kanpur. These charging stations will be located strategically at key points across the city. Each of these locations will be equipped with two charging guns, totaling 12 charging points across the city. Servotech Power Systems Ltd has bagged an order for EV chargers from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL). Servotech will be responsible for manufacturing, supplying and installing 2,649 AC EV Chargers strategically across the nation, equipping petrol pumps in major Indian cities under the BPCL The range of EV chargers to be supplied includes 3kW and 7kW variants. Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), in a recent order, has granted transmission licence to NRSS XXIX Transmission Ltd for a regulated tariff mechanism (RTM) project that will involve augmentation of transformation capacity at Amargarh GIS substation by 315 MVA, with an estimated outlay of Rs.82 crore. NRSS XXIX Transmission Ltd, originally owned by Sterlite Power and now under the ownership of India Grid Trust, developed the Northern Region System Strengthening (NRSS) Scheme – XXIX and commissioned the same in August 2018. Waaree Energies has received a mandate from ENGIE India for supply of 200 mw of solar modules for a solar power project in Sayla village in the Surendra Nagar district of Gujarat. ENGIE India, a subsidiary of the France-based ENGIE Group, is developing the Sayla village project under a 25-year PPA with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. (October 31, 2023)
Hitachi Energy, as part of its ongoing CSR initiatives, recently inaugurated a Central Monitoring & Analytics Center (C-MAC) at IIT Roorkee campus in Uttarakhand, and handed over two electric carts to the campus community. A microgrid system, supported by Hitachi Energy, was also inaugurated. This microgrid will help ensure power quality, including frequency and voltage regulation, smoothing the output of renewable energy sources, and providing backup power. The Lab is designed to monitor, simulate, analyse and control data from 22 locations of substations on the campus. Both the facilities were developed by Hitachi Energy. (October 31, 2023)
Shakti Pumps (India) Ltd has received a patent for inventing “Grinder Pump Assembly with Adjustable Impeller.” The Patent Office, Government of India, has awarded Shakti Pumps patent for this wastewater pump, fully adhering to the provisions set forth in the Patents Act of 1970. The board of REC Ltd, on October 27, 2023, approved the creation of three wholly-owned subsidiaries of REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL; in turn a wholly-owned subsidiary of REC Ltd). These subsidiaries will act as project SPVs for two interstate and one intrastate transmission schemes for which RECPDCL has been named as bid process coordinator. The interstate schemes are “North Eastern Region Generation Scheme – I” and “Transmission scheme for integration of Tumkur-II REZ in Karnataka”. The intrastate scheme pertains to a transmission package in Rajasthan. RECPDCL will select developers for these schemes using the TBCB modality. (October 27, 2023)
REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL) has incorporated a project SPV “Khavda V-A Power Transmission Ltd” that will develop an interstate transmission system (ISTS) officially termed as “Transmission system for evacuation of power from potential renewable energy zone in Khavda area of Gujarat under Phase-V (8 GW): Part A.” RECPDCL, as the bid process coordinator (BPC), will be responsible for selection of the developer for this scheme, under the tariff-based competitive bidding mechanism. Suzlon Group has announced the winning of an order from Juniper Green Energy Pvt Ltd for installation of 16 wind turbine generators with a hybrid lattice tubular (HLT) tower and with rated capacity of 3.15 MW each. The project, located in Gujarat’s Dwarka district, is expected to be commissioned in 2025. As part of the agreement, Suzlon will supply the wind turbines (equipment supply) and execute the project including, erection and commissioning. Suzlon will also provide comprehensive O&M services post-commissioning. Juniper Green Energy won the 50.4-mw wind power project in an auction conducted by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. AmpIn Energy Transition (formerly Amp Energy India) has announced a strategic partnership with Jupiter International to establish a JV that will set up a manufacturing facility to annually produce up to 1.3 GW of high-quality solar cells and modules under the PLI Tranche-II Scheme. Jupiter International already has 800 mw of annual solar cell manufacturing capacity in Himachal Pradesh while AmpIn Energy has a solar power generation portfolio of around 3 GW, spread across 17 Indian states. Servotech Power Systems has filed two patents for innovative energy management technologies, the company said in a release. The first patent, titled “System and Method for Controlling Load Shifting by Third Party” relates to a system and method for enabling third-party entities to control load shifting in a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The technology allows third-party entities, such as utilities or aggregators, to optimize the use of BESS assets to provide grid services. The second patent, titled “System and Method for Effective Energy Channelization from a Renewable Energy Source” relates to a system and method for effectively channeling energy from a renewable energy source, such as solar or wind, into a BESS. The technology optimizes the use of renewable energy by ensuring that it is stored in the BESS when it is most valuable, the release said. (October 23, 2023)
An unnamed wholly-owned subsidiary of Genus Power Infrastructures Ltd has received a Letter of Award (LOA) worth Rs. 3,121.42 crore (net of taxes) for appointment of Advanced Metering Infrastructure Service Provider (AMISPs) including design of Advance Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system with supply, installation and commissioning with FMS of 36.27 lakh Smart Prepaid Meters, system meters including DT Meters with corresponding energy accounting, on DBFOOT basis. The Digital Energy Solutions arm of L&T Construction’s Power Transmission & Distribution business has signed an MoU with IIT Indore to explore and work on activities through the framework set-up across various avenues of engagement. Apraava Energy announced that it has received approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) on its decarbonisation target. ApraavaEnergy is among a handful of players in India’s power sector to have set emission reduction targets under the SBTi, and only the second Indian power company to have had its targets validated, a release by Apraava Energy said. Apraava aims to reduce its Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions intensity (tCO2e/MWh) by 46.3 per cent by 2027 as compared to the base year of 2022. The SBTi’s validation team has determined that Apraava’s target is in line with the 1.5ºC trajectory outlined in the Paris Agreement. (October 19, 2023)
REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL) has incorporated two special purpose vehicles “Rajasthan IV H1 Power Transmission Ltd” and “Rajasthan IV E Power Transmission Ltd” for development of two transmission schemes falling under “Transmission system for evacuation of power from Rajasthan REZ (Phase IV) (Part 2: 5.5 GW) (Jaisalmer/Balmer) Complex”. While the first project SPV deals with “Part H1” of the said scheme, the second will be associated with “Part E” of the scheme. Kalpataru Projects International Ltd (KPIL) along with its international subsidiaries have secured new orders/notification of awards of Rs.2,217 crore, KPIL said in a release. These orders included Rs.1,993 crore in the power T&D business. Cumulative order inflows in the power T&D business in FY24 so far are around Rs.5,400 crore. Avaada Group’s Green Ammonia division has announced the formalisation of an MoU with REC Ltd. This agreement paves the way for the financing of Avaada Group’s green ammonia endeavour in Odisha, representing an investment commitment of Rs.15,000 crore (approximately $1.8 billion). SJVN Ltd has received a letter of award for a 100-mw solar power project from Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (RUVNL) at a tariff of Rs.2.62 per kwh. The project, estimated to cost Rs.600 crore, was secured by SJVN Green Energy Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SJVN, on BOO basis. A 25-year PPA will be entered into between SGEL and RUVNL. SJVN is also developing a 1,000-mw mega solar project in Bikaner, Rajasthan, for which the foundation stone was laid in January this year. (October 13, 2023)

The order, placed by Ajmer Viduyt Vitran Nigam Ltd, also entails mandatory replacement of existing grid-connected AC pumps with BLDC pumps. The order is scheduled for completion in nine months. Adani Solar Energy Jaisalmer Two Pvt Ltd, a wholly-owned step-down subsidiary of Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) has progressively completed the commissioning of the entire 150-mw solar power project at Bikaner, Rajasthan as an independent power producer, for sale of power to third parties or on power exchanges. With the successful commissioning of this plant, AGEL’s total operational renewable generation capacity has increased to 8,404 mw. This places AGEL’s total renewable portfolio well on track to reach its vision of 45 GW capacity by 2030, AGEL said in a release. (October 7, 2023)

The Power business arm of Larsen & Toubro has landed an EPC order of unspecified value from West Bengal Power Development Corporation Ltd to set up wet flue gas desulphurization (FGD) systems for its thermal power plant at Sagardighi in West Bengal. The project includes three FGD absorbers catering to four thermal power units (2×300 mw, 2×500 mw) while balance of plant systems to be installed shall cater to five units of the plant. For L&T, this will be the first FGD project from a state-owned power utility. With this order, L&T is poised to install FGD projects for thermal plants totaling more than 19 GW, L&T said in a release. (October 4, 2023)

Serentica Renewables has announced the completion of Rs.3,000 crore of debt funding from REC Ltd. REC’s support is expected to assist Serentica in developing its hybrid renewable energy projects – comprising wind and solar capacity aggregating 560 mw — coming up in Karnataka. The capital infusion from REC comes close on the heels of the Rs.2,600 crore debt funding that the company secured from another power sector major – PFC, recently. Servokon Systems Ltd has planned to set up a new manufacturing plant at Hapur in Uttar Pradesh. Spread over an area of 25,000 sqm, the new factory for which the foundation stone would be laid soon, will manufacture transformers up to 220kV class as well as solar panels, a company release said. Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Ltd (MPPTCL) has energized a new 50 MVA transformer at the 132kV Talakpura substation in Khargone district. This has taken the total transformation capacity at the substation to 90 MVA and that of the Khargone district to 2,124 MVA. The new transformer is expected to benefit consumers of Segaon, Lonara, Sangvi, Talakpura, Narmada Valley Development Authority, etc. The total transformation capacity of MPPTCL, as of around September 22, 2023, stood at 78,328 MVA. Suzlon Group has announced a new order win for the development of a 29.4-mw wind installed capacity for 100 mw co-located wind-solar hybrid project of BrightNight, a global renewable power producer. Suzlon will install 14 units of its S120 – 140m wind turbine generators with a hybrid lattice tubular tower and a rated capacity of 2.1 mw each at Osmanabad in Maharashtra. The project is expected to be commissioned in phases, beginning in April 2024. Suzlon will execute the project with a scope of supply, installation, commissioning and post-commissioning O&M. Sterlite Power announced the acquisition of Beawar Transmission Ltd, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) from REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL). The interstate transmission system (ISTS) project in Rajasthan was awarded to Sterlite Power through the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process in August 2023. SJVN Ltd, in a stock exchange filing, said that it has signed an MoU with Power Finance Corporation Ltd (PFC) for financial assistance to various diversified portfolio of projects including majorly renewable energy projects and a thermal generation project, to be set up at total project cost of about Rs.1,18,826 crore. The term loan financial assistance is tentatively proposed at 70 per cent of the project cost, which may be increased for renewable energy projects as per project requirements, the filing said. Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) and TotalEnergies have entered into a binding agreement to create a new 50:50 joint venture, with a 1,050 mw portfolio. This portfolio will comprise a mix of already operational (300 mw), under construction (500 mw) and under-development assets (250 mw) with a blend of both solar and wind power. AGEL will contribute to the JV the assets and TotalEnergies an equity investment of $300 million, which will further support their development. TotalEnergies will reinforce its strategic alliance with AGEL and support the company in becoming the Indian leader of renewable energy, with a target of 45 GW renewable power capacity by 2030, a release from Adani Group said. Adani Wind, the wind energy solutions division of Adani New Industries Ltd (ANIL), announced that its 5.2-mw wind turbine generator (WTG) has been enlisted in the Revised List of Models and Manufacturers (RLMM) published by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). This listing signals that the 5.2-mw WTG of Adani Wind is now commercially available. Adani Wind’s 5.2 MW WTG is highest capacity onshore wind turbine in India, to feature in the RLMM. KEC International Ltd has secured diversified orders together valued at Rs.1,012 crore, the RPG Group entity said in a release. The orders included a 765kV transmission line mandate from an existing private client; supply of tower, hardware and poles in the Americas, and supply of various types of cables to domestic and international clients. The orders also included domestic mandates in the civil construction business. SJVN Green Energy Ltd (SGEL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of SJVN Ltd, has signed a PPA with Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) for 18-mw solar power. The project will be developed on the land parcels of BBMB in the states of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. The project, with a cost of Rs.90 crore, is scheduled to be commissioned by August 2024. The project has been secured through open competitive bidding at a tariff of Rs.2.63 per kwh in the e-reverse auction organized by Punjab Energy Development Agency. (September 8, 2023)
Power Mech Projects Ltd has received an order worth Rs.396.01 crore from Vedanta Ltd for erection, testing and commissioning assistance of boiler, turbine-generator for the upcoming 2×600-mw power plant at Singhitarai in Chhattisgarh. The power plant was earlier promoted by Athena Chhattisgarh Power Ltd, which was acquired by Vedanta Ltd in July 2022. Another order, valued at Rs.229.20 crore, was placed on Power Mech Projects by Hindustan Zinc Ltd for O&M of its 2×91.2-mw captive power plant at Daridba in Udaipur, Rajasthan. (September 8, 2023)

Jyoti Structures Ltd, in a stock exchange filing, said that it has received a letter of award from Apraava Energy Pvt Ltd for turnkey supply and construction of a 400kV double-circuit transmission line in Rajasthan. Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd (CGCEL) has won an order valued at Rs.25.44 crore from HAREDA, Haryana, under the PM KUSUM Scheme. As part of the order, CGCEL will supply 538 solar pumps within 120 days. Tata Motors and Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) have entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) to develop a new 12MWp on-site solar project at Tata Motors’ Pune commercial vehicle manufacturing facility. The installation is collectively expected to generate 17.5 million units of electricity every year, which will meet nearly 17.2 per cent of the manufacturing plant’s annualized requirement. The solar project, consisting of rooftop installations, is to be commissioned within six months after the PPA gets signed. (September 6, 2023)

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) said that it commissioned, on September 1, 2023, a regulated tariff mechanism (RTM) project officially termed as “Transmission system strengthening beyond Kolhapur for export of power from solar & wind energy zones in Southern Region; reconductoring of Kolhapur (PG)-Kolhapur 400kV double-circuit line.” The “Committee of Directors on Investment on Projects” of PGCIL, on March 27, 2022, had approved investment of Rs.129.28 crore on the project with a then-anticipated commissioning date of February 2023. Ayana Renewable Power has signed a Power Purchase Agreement with Aditya Birla Group entity Hindalco Industries Ltd for the supply of 100 mw of round-the-clock (RTC) renewable energy to Hindalco’s smelter plants in Odisha. To this effect, Ayana will set up around 330 mw of solar and wind power capacity and will also use pumped hydropower storage solutions in partnership with Greenko Energies. This project will take Ayana’s cumulative capacity under management to nearly 5 GW, the company said in a release. (September 4, 2023)
Shakti Pumps has clinched an order valued at Rs.350 crore from HAREDA, Haryana, under the KUSUM Scheme-3. As part of the order, Shakti Pumps will supply over 7,700 pumps that will add to the 13,000 pumps already supplied under the first two phases of KUSUM Scheme. HAREDA, formerly Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency, is now a department for new & renewable energy under the Haryana government. (September 2, 2023)
NTPC Ltd and Oil India Ltd have signed an MoU to explore collaboration in the areas of renewable energy, green hydrogen and its derivatives, geothermal and other decarbonization initiatives. Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd, through its subsidiary TP Alpha Ltd, has signed a power delivery agreement (PDA) with Sanyo Special Steel Manufacturing India Pvt Ltd for a captive solar plant having capacity of 28.125 mw (AC) located in Aachegaon, Solapur district, Maharashtra. The solar plant, expected to commission by March 2024, is projected to produce 61.875 MU of electricity annually, which would meet the energy requirement of steel manufacturing unit of Sanyo Steel. Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd has signed a Group Captive Power Delivery Agreement (PDA) for 4.4 MW AC with the ANAND Group. Under this agreement, TPREL will facilitate the generation of 10 million units of clean energy through renewable sources. Larsen & Toubro has announced that it has formed a three-way joint venture company on August 26, 2023. Named “GH4 India Pvt Ltd,” the new company will be engaged in development of green hydrogen and its derivatives (including green ammonia, methanol, etc) production assets and associated renewable assets through any model of ownership and operatorship. Larsen & Toubro, Indian Oil Corporation and Renew Pvt Ltd will each have 33.33 per cent equity stake in the new joint venture company. (August 26, 2023)
TCPL GES, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Cummins Pvt Ltd (TCPL) has signed an MoU with the Jharkhand government set up a manufacturing plant to produce low-to-zero-emission technologies for mobility solutions that will cover hydrogen internal combustion engine, hydrogen fuel cell, battery-electric technology and fuel delivery systems. An investment of Rs.350 crore has been envisaged in the new venture, over the next few years. TCPL is a 50:50 joint venture between Tata Motors and Cummins Inc, USA. (August 26, 2023)
Suzlon Group has announced a significantly large new order acquisition for its 3-mw series of wind turbines from Teq Green Power XI Pvt Ltd, part of O2 Power Pvt Ltd. Suzlon will install 64 of its largest wind turbine generators (WTGs) with a Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) tower and a rated capacity of 3.15 mw each for the 201.6 mw wind power project. The project is expected to be commissioned in 2025. Suzlon will supply the wind turbines and execute the project, including erection and commissioning. Suzlon will also provide operation and maintenance services post‐commissioning, a company release said. (August 25, 2023)
NHPC Ltd has signed an MoU with Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Ltd for implementation of pumped hydro storage projects and renewable energy projects in Andhra Pradesh. In the first phase, the MoU envisages implementation of two identified pumped hydro storage projects of total capacity 1,950 mw. These projects are Kamlapadu (950 mw) and Yaganti (1,000 mw). The projects will be implemented under joint venture mode, a government release said. (August 25, 2023)
Atlas Copco Group has begun construction of its new manufacturing facility in Talegaon, Pune. To be completed by Q2 of 2024, the new facility for air and gas compressor systems will manufacture systems for the local and export markets. Suzlon Group has announced a new order win for the development of a 31.5 MW wind power project for Integrum Energy Infrastructure Pvt Ltd. Suzlon will install 15 units of their S120 – 140m wind turbine generators (WTGs) with a Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) tower and a rated capacity of 2.1 MW each in Maharashtra and Karnataka. The project is expected to be commissioned in May 2024. Suzlon will execute the project with a scope of supply, installation, and commissioning. KEC International has reported the winning of diversified orders aggregating Rs.1,007 crore, include a mandate to build a 380kV overhead transmission line in the Middle East, and for supply of various types of cables. These orders have taken the cumulative order inflows of KEC International in FY24 so far to over Rs.5,500 crore, around 15 per cent higher than the comparable level in FY23. (August 19, 2023)
The first hydrogen-fuelled bus of NTPC reached Leh on August 17, 2023, as part of a 3-month-long process of field trials and roadworthiness tests. This is poised to be India’s first ever deployment of hydrogen buses on public roads and is part of NTPC’s Green Hydrogen Mobility Project at Leh (altitude of 11,562 ft) that is co-located with dedicated 1.7-mw solar plant for providing renewable power. Towards achieving a “Carbon-Neutral Ladakh”, NTPC is setting up a hydrogen fuelling station, solar plant and providing five fuel cell buses for operation on intracity routes of Leh. (August 19, 2023)
Mundra Solar Energy Ltd (MSEL), a step down subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Ltd has received, on August 17, 2023, the commercial operational date (“COD”) certificate from Solar Energy Corporation of India (“SECI”) for its solar PV cells and solar PV modules manufacturing plant located at Mundra in Gujarat. The plant has a capacity of 2 GW per year. Adani Enterprises, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Adani Tradecom Ltd, holds 74 per cent shares of MSEL. (August 18, 2023)
Energy-as-a-service company Yuma Energy, a joint venture between Magna and Yulu, a new battery swapping station at Siri Fort Auditorium in Delhi to support the evolving e-mobility ecosystem in the city. The facility was built in association with Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd (BRPL). Yuma operates one of India’s largest networks of battery charging and swapping stations for electric two-wheelers. Its network of more than 120 Yuma Stations across Bengaluru, Delhi, Gurgaon, Mumbai, and Navi Mumbai supports half a million swaps and serves 125,000 customers every month. (August 17, 2023)
AmpIn Energy Transition has begun supplying 10MWp of solar power from its 30MWp solar plant in Mishrikh, Uttar Pradesh to JK Cement. With this 10MWp solar offtake, JK Cement will be taking the overall RE replacement to more than 60 per cent in its overall energy mix at its Aligarh manufacturing plant, thereby reducing more than 10,780 tonnes of CO2 annually, a release from AmpIn Energy said. Government of Arunachal Pradesh has signed memoranda of agreement with Central PSUs – Neepco Ltd and SJVN Ltd – for the development of hydropower projects in the northeastern state. While Neepco has been allotted hydropower projects aggregating 2,620 mw, SJVN has been allotted five projects totaling 5,097 mw, including the 3,097 mw Etalin project that is considered to be India’s largest hydropower facility by current thinking. Some of the projects now awarded had been assigned to private developers but the agreements were rescinded following little or no project progress. (August 14, 2023)
Servotech Power Systems has signed an MoU with Government of Uttar Pradesh to set up an EV charger manufacturing plant in the state along with backward integration. The plant will be set up under the Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy 2022. As per this MoU, Servotech will invest nearly Rs.300 crore for this project in phases and will create employment for over 500 people. This manufacturing plant will be partially operational in the first quarter of 2025 and will have a capacity to manufacture 10,000 EV DC Fast chargers per year. The chargers will be manufactured for both domestic and export markets. (August 12, 2023)
AmpIn Energy Transition has entered into a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with JCAPCPL to supply 2.8 MWp of solar energy for its plant in Jamshedpur. Under the terms of this agreement, AmpIn Energy Transition will install solar panels for JCAPCPL with a robust capacity of 2.8 MWp, harnessing the power of sun to generate clean and renewable energy. Tata Power and the Government of Maharashtra have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop two large pumped hydro storage projects (PSP) with a combined capacity of 2,800 mw in the state. These projects, with an estimated investment of approximately Rs.13,000 crore, will be situated at Shirawta, Pune (1,800 mw) and Bhivpuri, Raigad (1,000 mw) districts. The collaboration is poised to drive the state towards its ambitious goal of becoming a $1-trillion economy by 2028 while concurrently generating employment for over 6,000 people, a release by Tata Power said. Waaree Energies Ltd has raised approximately Rs.1,000 crore in a round of equity funding. The funding will be utilized for another 6 GW of capacity expansion, in addition to the existing capacity of 12 GW. The additional 6 GW capacity is intended for the manufacturing of solar ingots and wafers, cells and modules. This equity investment is in addition to the PLI Tranche II of Rs.1,923 crore awarded by the Government of India. The company also plans for backward integration in the manufacturing of solar cells with a capacity of 5.4 GW. Within the next two years, Waaree Energies Ltd. will have 20 GW of module capacity, 11.4 GW cell and 6 GW wafers manufacturing capacity, a company statement said. (August 7, 2023)
SJVN Ltd has inked an MoU with Sikkim Urja Ltd (SUL) for power trading. In terms of the MoU, SJVN shall trade 180 mw hydropower from SUL’s 1,200-mw Teesta-III hydropower project in Sikkim to distribution licensees and OA consumers. This will be SJVN’s first venture Sikkim, SJVN said in a release. It may be mentioned that CERC has granted SJVN Category- I Power Trading License for interstate trading of electricity. Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Ltd (MPPTCL) has energized a 50 MVA power transformer at its 132kV Garoth substation in Mandsaur district, increasing the substation’s capacity to 110 MVA. This Rs.5.76-crore transformer was remotely energized from the Indore SCADA centre, around 180 km away from the installation site. The augmented capacity is poised to benefit around 55,000 consumers of 210 villages of Garoth and Bhanpura tehsils in Mandsaur district. (August 3, 2023)
Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has signed two PPAs with Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) for commissioning two solar power projects of 200 mw and 150 mw, respectively. These solar projects are expected to commission by mid-2025. TPREL has tied-up 930 mw with MSEDCL out of which 334 mw is presently supplied and balanced 596 mw will be commissioned in next 12-18 months. The total renewables capacity of TPREL till date stands at 7,783 mw of which 4,118 mw (solar: 3,136 mw and wind: 982 mw) is installed and 3,665 mw is under various stages of implementation. GE Power India Ltd (GEPIL) has received a letter of intent from Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd (GSECL) for complete EPC and commissioning of a flue-gas desulphurization (FGD) system. The order, valued at Rs.444 crore (excluding GST), is scheduled for completion by January 2026, GEPIL said in a stock exchange filing. (August 1, 2023)
NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd (NTPC REL) has received the letter of award for a 550-mw solar project at a tariff of Rs.2.56 per kwh, won in RECPDCL’s 1,250-mw ISTS-connected solar tender of December 2022. This power will be utilized under the Central government’s scheme for flexibility in generation and scheduling of thermal power stations through bundling with RE capacity. The project, with an outlay of Rs.2,800 crore, is to be executed within a period of 18 months. As on date, NTPC Group has 3.3 GW RE operational capacity, 6 GW is under different stages of implementation, another 12 GW under tendering including 4 GW Energy Storage System and a major hydrogen based energy storage cum microgid system. Juniper Green Energy has been recently awarded 190 mw of wind capacity from GUVNL and 105 mw of solar capacity from MSEDCL at an average tariff of Rs.3.00per kWh. These projects were awarded through competitive bidding, followed by an e-eeverse auction held by GUVNL and MSEDCL. As per bid terms, PPA shall be signed between the entities for 25 years, and the projects will be commissioned within 18-24 months. Additionally, the company has started construction on its first ISTS solar power project of 140MW capacity under the merchant/C&I route. (August 1, 2023)
Servotech Power Systems Ltd has announced the establishment of a wholly-owned subsidiary Techbec Green Energy Pvt Ltd with the aim to indigenously manufacture key components for Electric Vehicle (EV) chargers. The subsidiary will be equipped with a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility spanning across 40,000 sqft in Sonepat, Haryana, and will focus on the manufacturing of key EV charger components like power modules, CCS2 guns, Type-2 guns, connectors, control cards, PLC modules and lithium-ion batteries. This enhanced capacity will benefit consumers of Shahganj, Dobi, Nander, Amon, Digwad areas in Sehore district. Transformers & Rectifiers (India) Ltd, in a stock exchange communication, said that it has won an order from Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) for power transformers. Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has successfully synchronized of the 660 mw Unit-2 of the 1,320-mw Maitree Super Thermal Power Project (STPP) in Bangladesh. The 2×660 Maitree STPP is located at Rampal, Mongla, Bagerhat, Bangladesh, and is being set up by BHEL for the Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company (BIFPCL), which is a 50:50 joint venture between the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and NTPC. The Arunachal Pradesh government has allotted five hydropower projects in the Dibang basin to SJVN Ltd. The projects, with aggregate capacity of over 5,000 mw are: Etalin (3097 mw), Attunli (680 mw), Emini (500 mw), Amulin (420 mw) and Mihumdon (400 mw). Etalin and Attunli were earlier allotted to private players but lack of physical progress inspired their transfer to SJVN. The state government has also allotted hydropower projects to other Central PSUs like Neepco, NHPC and THDC India. (July 25, 2023)

Avaada Energy has won the a MWp project under tariff based competitive bidding carried out by SECI as a part of SECI’s 2 GW ISTS-connected Solar Projects (Tranche XI). Bidding allows flexibility to Avaada Energy to set up the Solar Power project anywhere in India and supply green electricity on long-term at a tariff of Rs.2.61 per kwh. Juniper Green Energy has signed an MoU for Rs.5,000 crore with Power Finance Corporation Ltd (PFC) for funding its upcoming 1,200 mw of renewable energy projects. Juniper Green Energy has an existing portfolio of about 800 mw including 435 mw under construction. The company’s development portfolio is over 3,000 mw comprising solar, wind and hybrid projects, currently under various stages. (July 24, 2023)
SJVN Ltd has informed the signing of an MoU with REC wherein the latter will finance projects of SJVN and its subsidiaries/JVs, to the extent of Rs. 50,000 crore. REC will provide financial assistance to set up new power generating stations based on conventional & renewable sources of energy. REC will also assist financially in setting up new technology projects like battery storage, e-vehicles, green hydrogen/ammonia, hydrogen cells storage, manufacturing units for green projects. ReNew Energy Global Plc has signed MoUs worth Rs.64,000 crore with Power Finance Corporation (PFC) and Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) for its green energy projects. Accordingly, ReNew will receive Rs.32,000 each from PFC and REC for financing its current and upcoming energy transition projects. Avaada Group has entered into an MoU with REC Ltd that envisages assistance of up to Rs.20,000 crore by REC in Avaada’s diverse energy transition ventures. This certification signifies that the prototype turbine has successfully met the necessary requirements for serial production and commissioning. TUV SUD’s certification process included rigorous testing and verification in accordance with the internationally recognized standard, IEC 61400-22, and the Type Certificate issued is valid worldwide. Suzlon Group announced a new order win for the development of a 100.8 MW wind power project for Everrenew Energy Pvt Ltd. Suzlon will install 48 wind turbine generators (WTGs) of their S120 – 2.1 MW with a Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) tower at Velliyanani Phase II in Karur district and Vengaimandalam in Trichy in Tamil Nadu and the project is expected to be commissioned in March 2024. Suzlon will supply the wind turbines and supervise the execution and commissioning of the project, the company said in a stock exchange filing. (July 15, 2023)

Kalpataru Projects International Ltd (KPIL), on July 10, 2023, acquired the remaining 49 per cent equity stake in Fasttel Engenharia S.A., Brazil (‘Fasttel’), making it a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kalpataru Power Do Brasil Participações Ltda, in turn a wholly-owned Brazil-based subsidiary of KPIL. Suzlon Group has announced a new order win for the development of a 47.6-mw wind power project for KP Group. The project is located at Vagra in Bharuch district in Gujarat and is expected to be commissioned in 2024. Suzlon will supply its S133 wind turbines (equipment supply) and supervise execution and commissioning of the project. Serentica Renewables has signed a first-of-its-kind standalone energy storage capacity offtake contract with Greenko Group. As part of this contract, Serentica will leverage Greenko’s unique energy storage capabilities to utilise a cumulative 1,500 MWhr capacity from its upcoming energy storage projects in Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, a release from Serentica Renewables. Waaree Renewable Technologies Ltd, a subsidiary of Waaree Energies Ltd, has commissioned 87.5MW/122.5 MWp out of 150 MW/210 MWp EPC solar power project for UPC Renewable Energy Pvt Ltd.’s subsidiary Masaya Solar Energy Pvt Ltd in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. The solar power project is spread across 651 acres of undulated land terrain, with power being evacuated at a 220kV voltage level and connected at PGCIL 400/220kV substation through the ISTS network. The PPA (solar power purchase agreement) for the project has been made with the Solar Energy Corporation of India for a period of 25 years. (July 5, 2023)
Serentica Renewables announced that it has signed over 1.25 GW of new Power Delivery Agreements (PDAs) with multiple industrial customers. This is in addition to the 580 MW PDAs that were signed in March 2023. To ensure the round-the-clock green energy needs of its customers, Serentica will install 4 GW of renewable energy capacities across the country. The projects will deploy both wind and solar capacities, supplemented with balancing solutions like energy storage. Serentica is setting up these solar and wind capacities across the states of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Rajasthan, where it has secured connectivity to the inter-state transmission system (ISTS), Serentica said in a statement. Further, IndiGrid will continue to act as a Project Manager for NER. Sterlite Power will have no role as Project Manager in NER. Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Ltd (MPPTCL) has energized a power transformer of 160 MVA capacity at the 220kV Julwania substation in Nimar area, Barwani district, taking the total substation capacity to 403 MVA and that of the district to 2,109 MVA. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL), in a stock exchange filing, said that assets under “Additional System for Power Evacuation from Generation Projects Pooled at Raigarh (Tamnar) Pool” have been commissioned with effect from May 20, 2021 vide CERC order dated April 28, 2023 for which Notification for Commercial Operation (DOCO) has been received on June 22, 2023. The project consisted of two 765kV line bays at PGCIL’s Raigarh (Tamnar) pooling station (PS) and two 765kV line bays at PGCIL’s Dharamajaygarh pooling station. These line bays were required for termination of the 765kV double-circuit line connecting the Raigarh and Dharamajaygarh pooling stations mentioned above. First Energy Pvt Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Thermax Ltd, has commissioned a 45.80-mw wind-solar hybrid captive power plant in Gujarat. The facility has an installed capacity of 24.3 mw of wind energy and 21.50 mw of solar energy. The plant has more than 50,000 solar modules and 9 wind turbine generator units each of 2.7-mw capacity. SJVN Thermal Pvt Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SJVN Ltd, has successfully completed the hydro test of the boiler of Unit-1 of the 2×660-mw Buxar supercritical thermal power project located at Chausa in Buxar district, Bihar. The hydro test of the boiler designed, manufactured and installed by Larsen & Toubro was successfully conducted at a pressure of 438 kg/ cm2 which is 1.5 times the design pressure, SJVN said. Project execution is in full swing and Unit-1 is likely to commission by December 2023, followed by Unit-2 in March 2024. (June 19, 2023)
Envision Energy has won an order from Serentica Renewables for the supply and commissioning of wind turbine generators for a 350-mw wind park coming up in Maharashtra. As per the order, 106 units of Envision’s EN156/3.3wind turbine generators, with a rotor diameter of 156m, a hub height of 140m and a rated capacity of 3.3 mw, will be installed at the wind park. These turbines have a proven track record in China and Vietnam and are most optimally designed for the wind regime prevalent in India, a release from Envision said. The 350-mw wind park, forming part of Serentica’s overall 4-GW of targeted renewable energy capacity, is expected to commission by December 2024. (June 19, 2023)
NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd (NVVN) commissioned its first rooftop solar PV project at IIT Jodhpur, Rajasthan on June 14, 2023. The 1-mw grid-connected solar project has been implemented by NVVN under the RESCO model with a 25-year PPA. The Project is setup on the roofs of 14 buildings within the IIT campus. The project will generate around 14.9 lakh kwh per annum and will meet 15 per cent of the electricity requirement of IIT Jodhpur, NVVN said. (June 17, 2023)

SJVN Green Energy Ltd (SGEL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of SJVN, has won a 200-mw grid-connected wind power project through a competitive bidding process conducted by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). SGEL will develop this project, won at a tariff of Rs.3.24 per kwh, on Build, Own and Operate (BOO) basis. The project, with an estimated outlay of Rs.1,400 crore, is expected to commission within two years. The project can be set up anywhere in the country and is expected to generate 14.454 Gwh over its 25-year lifetime. With this project, SJVN’s wind power portfolio has now risen to 497.6 mw, inclusive of 97.6 mw under operation and 400 mw, coming from three projects, under various stages of development. Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) has commissioned a 110-mw solar power project in Bikaner, Rajasthan. The project will supply 110 mw of green power to the Kerala State Electricity Board. This project, set up in just seven months, is one of the fastest commissioned projects in Rajasthan, backed by a skilled team, cutting-edge technology, and experienced leadership, a TPREL release said. With this installation, the total renewables capacity of TPREL has reached 6,788 mw with an installed capacity of 4,047 mw (solar: 3,106 mw, wind: 941 mw) and 2,741 mw under various stages of implementation. Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Ltd (MPPTCL) has commissioned its first 200 MVA power transformer in Gwalior area at the 220kV Mehgaon (Gwalior) substation in Bhind district. The new transformer was remotely energized from Bhopal using HMI technology. The transformation capacity of the 220kV Mehgaon substation now stands enhanced to 360 MVA and that of the entire Bhind district now rises to 1,463 MVA. (June 3, 2023)

Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) reported a total trading volume of 96.8 billion units (BU) in FY23, comprising 90.6 BU of electricity and 6.2 BU equivalent of certificates (renewable energy certificates and energy saving certificates). This overall volume was 5 per cent lower than the corresponding 101.9 BU in FY22. In FY23, while electricity volume dropped by 5.2 per cent over that in FY22, certificate volume was 1.6 per cent down, by the same comparison. (May 26, 2023)
SJVN has set a capital expenditure target of Rs.10,000 crore for FY24. The Central PSU currently has 14 power projects and two transmission lines under construction, including those in India and Nepal. Suzlon will install 68 wind turbine generators with a hybrid lattice tubular tower and a rated capacity of 3-mw each for Serentica’s 204-mw wind power project coming up at Koppal in Karnataka. The project is expected to commission by early 2024. As part of the agreement, Suzlon will supply the wind turbines (equipment supply) and execute the project including erection and commissioning. NHPC, in a stock exchange communication, said that Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL) had issued a Letter of Intent dated May 16, 2023 to NHPC Ltd for developing a 200-mw solar power project within Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd’s 600-mw solar park at Khavda (GSECL – Stage I). Saint-Gobain, in a release, said that it has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) in India with Vibrant Energy to provide wind-solar electricity to six local Saint-Gobain sites. The 20-year PPA will begin delivery in 2024. Under the agreement, Vibrant Energy will provide Saint-Gobain with 189 GWh of renewable electricity (solar and wind) per year, thus reducing Saint-Gobain’s annual CO2 emissions in India by around 120,000 tonnes. Saint-Gobain has targeted to use 100 per cent renewable energy in India, by 2030, the release said. (May 17, 2023)

The total capacity of the Amarwada substation has now risen to 113 MVA and that of the entire Chhindwara district to 1,212 MVA — covering one 220kV substation and nine of the 132kV type. Amp Energy India, through its subsidiary Amp Green Energy Pvt Ltd, has won CESC’s 150-mw wind-solar hybrid auction at a tariff of Rs.3.07 per unit. This win takes Amp Energy India’s utility portfolio to 1.75 GWp+ diversified into niche segment with world class off-takers and total portfolio of projects to around 3GWp including C&I off-takers. HPL Electric & Power Ltd announced that it has won smart meter orders worth Rs.204 crore (Rs 179.45 crore net of tax) from customers with a pan-India presence. No further details were provided. Thermax Ltd has concluded an order of Rs. 271.50 crore from India’s biggest oil refinery in the private sector for mechanical balance of plant (MBoP) works for the captive power plant (CPP) at their new oil-to-chemical (O2C) facility in the western part of India. The proposed CPP is expected to meet the incremental power demand of upcoming projects at the customer’s premise as part of O2C expansion and the establishment of a mega factory. Thermax has been entrusted by the customer to execute the MBoP work involving engineering, procurement/supply and construction & civil works. The project is slated to be completed within a span of 16 months. (April 28, 2023)
A team of Madhya Pradesh Regulatory Commission (MPERC) recently visited the Govindpura Bhopal campus of Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Ltd (MPPTCL). According to a release by MPPTCL, the MPERC team inspected the Regional Load Despatch Center, SCADA Control Center and 220kV substation at Govindpura Bhopal. The MPERC team received information about 220kV RTU telemetry system installed in Govindpura control room and remote operation of GIS substation situated at E-8 Bhopal. The regulatory commission team also gathered information about the progress of work of Metro Feeder Bay and Smart City Feeder Bay, currently under construction in the yard of Govindpura. The MERC team expressed satisfaction over the methodology being adopted by MPPTCL and the work being done as per the prescribed parameters and norms, the release added. (April 27, 2023)
ANDRITZ has announced the signing of a new R&M contract of the Umiam-Umtru Stage-III (2×30-mw) with Meghalaya Power Generation Corporation Ltd. ANDRITZ’s scope under the contract includes the complete replacement of generators, turbines, automation, complete electrical power systems along with installation, testing and commissioning with a 40-month completion schedule. The entire project will be executed by ANDRITZ’s manufacturing bases in India. This is third major contract for ANDRITZ after having successful completed the greenfield projects namely Myntdu Leshka (3×42-mw) and New Umtru (2×20-mw) with the same customer. (April 18, 2023)

ReNew Energy Global Plc’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Diamond II Ltd, has raised $400 million through the issue of senior secured green bonds. The order book was oversubscribed about 4 times with a total investor demand aggregating in excess of $ 1.5 billion, resulting in 35bps tightening of pricing. The Corporate Style Notes carry a US Dollar coupon rate of 7.95 per cent and have been rated Ba3 by Moody’s and BB- by Fitch. Avaada Energy has been awarded a 200-mw (DC) solar power project from Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. (GUVNL) at a tariff of Rs. 2.75 per kWh. The project was awarded through competitive bidding, followed by an e-Reverse auction held by GUVNL. As per bid terms, PPA will be signed between two entities for 25 years, and the project will be commissioned within 18 months. The plant will produce 370 million units of electricity per year, leading to a reduction of approx. 3,44,470 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions annually, a release by Avaada Energy said. SJVN Green Energy Ltd (SGEL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of SJVN, has entered into an agreement with BVG India Ltd for balance of system (BOS) package for a 100-mw solar project in Punjab. The contract, valued at Rs.132.64 crore, also includes O&M of the solar PV plant for a period of three years. SJVN had bagged the project through the tariff-based competitive bidding route, quoting a tariff of Rs.2.65 per kwh. The total construction cost of the project is estimated at around Rs.545 crore. Transformers & Rectifiers (India) Ltd has been awarded order of transformers for total contract value of Rs.131 crore from an unnamed Central utility, the company said in a stock exchange filing. Su-Kam Power Systems Ltd has signed an MoU with the Himachal Pradesh government to set up a Sustainable Energy Storage Park in the state. With an investment of around Rs.300 crore, Su-Kam plans to produce e-mobility and solar energy products on a 50-acre site at this Sustainable Energy Storage Park. The company will be allotted the necessary land, along with external developments and other required infrastructure facilities, by the Himachal Pradesh government, a release from Su-Kam said. Perkins Engines Company Ltd has appointed Anurag Pai to the position of regional marketing manager for South Asia, replacing Abhinav Gupta. BCPL Railway Infrastructure Ltd has received an electrification project from Northern Railway, Electrical Division, Jalandhar City, Punjab. This order is for the work of design, supply, erection, testing & commissioning of 25kV overhead electrification (OHE) for the work of “Doubling between Ludhiana-Mullanpur including Ludhiana Yard Remodeling over Firozpur Division” (69 tkm). Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Ltd (MPPTCL) has energized a 132kV line and feeder bay at the 400kV substation Julwania for Narmada Valley Development Authority (NVDA). The new installation has been energized for Ajandi-Nagalwadi Micro Lift Irrigation Powerhouse No.1 of NVDA. In all, MPPTCL will be supplying power to three powerhouses of this micro lift irrigation system. This work was also necessitated as electricity to powerhouses of micro lift irrigation system would now be made at 132kV level. Power supply through 132kV lines of about 50 km is to be made from the 400kV Julwania substation under which this first line and feeder bay for Powerhouse No.1 has now been energized. Power supply has now reached the switchyard of Powerhouse No.1, MPPTCL said. (April 11, 2023)
WIKA India has announced the installation of solar panels for its Ghaziabad factory in Uttar Pradesh. With this, all four WIKA factories across India have turned solar power-enabled. The latest brand-new rooftop solar system at Ghaziabad factory has capacity of close to 0.5 mw. Advait Infratech has reported the winning of a Rs.58.24-crore order from Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (UPPTCL), In a stock exchange filing, Advait Infratech said that the turnkey order, scheduled to complete within 18 months from the date of letter of award, entails design, engineering, manufacturing, testing, supply, stringing, splicing, installation, testing and commissioning of OPGW (optical ground wire) along with hardware and accessories, termination of OPGW at both end substations etc. The work involves replacement of existing earthwire with OPGW of 220kV and 132kV lines, spanning about 1,520 km, of UPPTCL. INOX Air Products (INOXAP), a manufacturer of industrial and medical gases, has joined hands with TP Saurya Bandita Ltd, a special purpose vehicle of Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd, for setting up captive solar plant at Dhule, Maharashtra. The solar power project with a capacity of a 40MWp, would cater to the energy needs of the air separation units operated by INOXAP in the state of Maharashtra. Prozeal Infra Engineering Pvt Ltd has announced their first round of funding led by Chandrakant Gogri’s family office arm – Alchemie Ventures. The $4-million investment is for a minority stake at an undisclosed valuation. The funds will be used to scale operations and execute developer-model projects for energy and utility companies. Incorp Advisory was the exclusive investment banker for the transaction. Prozeal Infra, a home-grown venture founded by two Ahmedabad-based co-founders, already has an order book worth Rs.1,000 crore ($120 million) that will be fulfilled over the next twelve months. Hartek Solar, the solar EPC business unit of the Hartek Group, has been awarded a contract by SJVN Green Energy Ltd (a subsidiary of SJVN Ltd) to build a 22 MW floating solar PV power project at Nangal Pond, District Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh. This project, upon commissioning, is believed to become north India’s largest floating solar power plant. The scope of the project includes complete EPC of the floating solar plant with 15 MW AC and comprehensive O&M. The floating solar project is expected to have a DC capacity of approximately 22 mw and will annually generate 33 million kwh of electricity. (March 31, 2023)

NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd, a step-down wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC Ltd, signed a term sheet with Greenko ZeroC Pvt Ltd (A Greenko Group Company) on March 28, 2023 to Supply 1,300 mw Round the Clock (RTC) renewable-energy based for powering Greenko’s upcoming green ammonia plant at Kakinada, India. The agreement between the two companies is one of the world’s single largest contract for supply of RTC renewable supply for an industrial client, NTPC said. (March 28, 2023)
The Committee of Directors for Bonds of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL), in a meeting held on March 24, 2023, have approved the raising of unsecured, non-convertible, non-cumulative, redeemable, taxable POWERGRID Bonds-LXXII (72nd) Issue 2022-23” on private placement up to Rs.600 crore by securitization of cash flows of 10 years, which is till FY33 of its operational SPV — “Powergrid NM Transmission Ltd (PNMTL)”. Kalpataru Power Transmission Ltd (KPTL) along with its international subsidiaries has secured new orders/notification of awards of Rs.2,477 crore, including Rs.1,181 crore in the domestic and international power T&D business. The remaining Rs.1,296 crore came from EPC projects in the water business. These orders have taken the company’s consolidated order inflow in FY23 so far to Rs.25,149 crore, KPTL said. PTC India Ltd announced entering into an agreement with Belgium-based “N-Side” to work on developing a predictive solution for the Indian power markets. Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) has signed a power purchase agreement with Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd (Tata Power-DDL), for a 510-mw hybrid project. The PPA has capacity bifurcation of 170 mw solar and 340 mw wind. Located in Karnataka, the hybrid project will be commissioned within 24 months from the PPA execution date. TPREL won this project through a competitive bidding process, followed by the release of LOA by Tata Power-DDL. This win is an extension of the earlier LOA of 255 mw received in December 2022. With this win, the total renewables capacity of TPREL has reached 6,303 mw with an installed capacity of 3,909 mw (solar: 2,981 mw; wind: 928 mw) and 2,394 mw under various stages of implementation. Bajaj Electricals Ltd has reported the winning of orders worth Rs.564.87 crore (excluding taxes) from South Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd, under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). Won under a national competitive bidding process, the orders entail supply of plant and installation services for development of distribution infrastructure of electric supply circle Sasaram (Rohtas and Kaimur districts); and distribution infrastructure of electric supply circle Munger (Munger and Lakhisarai districts) of Bihar. Amplus Solar has announced an association with EverRenew, an NTC Group company, to set up a 200 MWp open-access solar power plant in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, India. The plant is expected to generate approximately 450 million units of green electricity in the first year of its operation itself. The hybrid plant will combine the power from co-located solar panels and wind turbines to produce an uninterrupted supply of green energy for commercial and industrial consumers in the southern state. US-based global equity investment boutique GQG Partners has announced the completion of a Rs.15,446 crore ($1.87 billion) in a series of secondary block trade transactions in the Adani Portfolio companies – Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd, Adani Green Energy Ltd, Adani Transmission Ltd and Adani Enterprises Ltd. The investment has made GQG a key investor in the development and growth of critical Indian infrastructure, a release from Adani Group said. The investment in Adani Transmission Ltd, in particular, was Rs.1,898 crore ($0.23 billion), comprising 28.4 million equity shares. Jefferies India Pvt Ltd acted as a sole broker for the transaction. NTPC, in a stock exchange communication, said that the first unit of its 3×660-mw North Karanpura super thermal power station (STPS) started commercial operations on March 1, 2023. With this, the standalone and group commercial capacity of NTPC has grown to 58,979 mw and 71,594 mw, respectively. The coal-based supercritical North Karanpura STPS is located at Tandwa in Chatra district of Jharkhand. (March 1, 2023)
NTPC reported the start of commercial operations of a further 50 mw of its 300-mw Nokhra solar PV project at Bikaner in Rajasthan. With this, the total operational capacity of the said solar PV plant now stands at 200 mw. Prior to this, 150 mw was commissioned, in two stages, during December 2022. With this, the standalone installed and commercial capacity of NTPC has now become 58,979 mw and 58,319 mw respectively. The installed capacity of NTPC Group (NTPC along with its subsidiaries and JVs) has grown to 71,594 mw, NTPC said in a stock exchange communication. (February 16, 2023)
BPE (Best Power Equipments) announced that it has installed more than 120 power backup solutions in hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and medical laboratories, pan India. The EPX series of BPE, running from 10 kVA to 600 kVA, has been designed to improve the power input that is required in hospitals and medical facilities. Schneider Electric has announced the launch of new product lines in one of its manufacturing facilities in Bengaluru to support the growing demand for protection relays, IoT gateways for digitization of power quality and management. Power quality products such as PowerLogic EVC+ enable efficiency of power consumption, whereas the PowerLogic P3 protection relays provide a complete range of protection for medium-voltage applications to include motors, transformers, and generators. Amplus Solar has signed an agreement with JK Lakshmi Cement Ltd to supply solar power for its cement facility in Durg, Chhattisgarh. Through this initiative, JK Lakshmi Cement will be able to replace 92 million units with green electricity that will help reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 88,352 tonnes, in the first year itself. Amp Energy India, in a release, said that has commissioned a 5-MW solar power plant for BSV, a vaccine biopharmaceutical company. This project, commissioned in the last quarter of 2022, and located in Amp’s Open Access facility in Osmanabad district, Maharashtra, supplies solar power to BSV’s manufacturing facility in Ambernath, Maharashtra. This partnership is expected to meet about 65 per cent of BSV’s annual energy needs that will help it achieve 35 per cent savings on its overall annual energy costs. (February 6, 2023)
Excavation works at the power house site of the upcoming 66-mw Dhaulasidh hydropower project of SJVN Ltd in Himachal Pradesh is now complete, according to a company release. First-stage concreting of the power house is expected to start soon. Alongside, excavation works of the tail race channel are also nearing completion. This run-of-river project on the Beas is expected to have a capital outlay of Rs.687 crore. On completion, the project, for which the foundation stone was laid in December 2021, will generate 304 million kwh of electricity annually. (January 30, 2023)
ANDRITZ has received a contract to supply the complete electromechanical works for the Lodhama II HEP (2 x 5 MW) located in Darjeeling district, West Bengal. This was an EPC contract and ANDRITZ has partnered-up with P&R Infraprojects Ltd. to supply the electromechanical works. The project owner is West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (WBSEDCL). This will be ANDRITZ’s second contract with the client having already commissioned a project earlier. The Lodhama project is located within the complex of the existing Rammam Stage-II (51 mw) hydroelectric project also owned by WBSEDCL which was commissioned in 1995. (January 25, 2023)
NTPC has successfully completed trial operations of Unit-1 of its 3×660-mw Karanpura super thermal power project in Jharkhand. The project, with supercritical parameters, has been equipped with air cooled condensers (ACC) which has just one-third water footprint as compared to conventional water cooled condensers (WCC). The project will provide affordable power to the states of Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, and Odisha.With this latest addition, the total installed capacity of NTPC Group has become 71,544 mw, NTPC said. Ashoka Buildcon, in a stock exchange filing, said that it has won orders worth Rs.807.64 crore under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). The orders were placed by Uttar Pradesh state government power distribution utility Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd. The works will be carried out in two broad areas – Aligarh-2 Zone and Agra-1 Zone – and will involve GPS survey, design, supply, installation, GIS, asset mapping, testing and commissioning works related to loss reduction on turnkey basis. Overall, the project will cover select electricity distribution circles in the districts of Etah, Kasganj, Agra, Mainpuri and Firozbabad. (January 10, 2023)
Ultracab (India) Ltd, in a stock exchange filing, said that it was won an order worth Rs.22.88 crore for the supply of cables from Tata Power Company Ltd. No further details about the order were disclosed in the communication. Incorporated in 2007, Ultracab has its manufacturing plant located at Rajkot in Gujarat. “The company aims to accelerate its growth and expand its margins and profitability through its wide range of products,” the filing noted.
