The CMD of SJVN Ltd recently held a meeting with the Prime Minister of Nepal to discuss the various projects that SJVN is implementing in the hilly nation.
In a release, SJVN said that the company’s CMD Nand Lal Sharma meet Prime Minister of Nepal Sher Bahadur Deuba at Kathmandu to discuss the various projects that the Central PSU is implementing in that country. SJVN has been entrusted with the following projects:

- Arun-3 hydropower project (900 mw)
- Lower Arun hydropower project (679 mw)
- Associated 400kV transmission line
The objective of Sharma’s meeting was also to apprise the PM of Nepal of certain concerns of SJVN that may affect the projects. Sharma discussed ways of faster development and also on harnessing of hydro power potential of Himalayan Rivers in Nepal.
Sharma emphasized the concept of “one basin one developer” to optimize resources and faster development of hydropower projects.
The Nepal Prime Minister appreciated the progress of Arun-3 hydropower project and assured Sharma of suitable action by the Government of Nepal to address the concerns of SJVN.
Earlier during his visit to SJVN’s projects in Nepal Sharma reviewed the progress of the power house, transformer hall and surge shaft of the Arun-3 project. In his meeting with Managing Director of Patel Engineering Ltd (contractor of C-2 Package), Sharma instructed to resolve all the issues and expedite commissioning the project by April, 2023.
He also reviewed both major civil works packages of the project. A meeting was also held with the civil contractor of the dam and part the head race tunnel to speed up the works to match with completion schedule of the project.
Transmission Line
Nand Lal Sharma also reviewed the progress of 400kV transmission line being implemented by SJVN for evacuation of power from the upcoming projects of SJVN.
He also held a meeting with representatives of PGCIL, KEC International (tower packages contractor), GE T&D India (substation package contractor) and representatives of Apar Industries – the conductor package contractor.
Sharma instructed the contractors concerned to expedite activities related to tower package, so as to match it up with the commissioning schedule of the generation component of the Arun-3 project. Representatives of the various contractors assured the CMD of SJVN of meeting the targets to match the commissioning schedule of April 2023.
