SJVN Ltd (formerly Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd) has won a 75-mw grid-connected solar power project in Uttar Pradesh, quoting a tariff of Rs.2.68 per kwh.
In a release, the Shimla-headquartered Central PSU said that the letter of intent for the project was given by state nodal agency Uttar Pradesh New & Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA).
The project, won through the tariff-based competitive bidding mechanism, will come up at Parasan in Kalpdi tehsil of Jalaun district in Uttar Pradesh. Electricity generated from this project will be sold to UPNEDA under a 25-year agreement.
This new win will help SJVN in achieving its renewable energy generation capacity target of 5,000 mw by 2023, which will be enhanced to 12,000 mw by 2030 and to 25,000 mw by 2040.
This is the second solar project win for SJVN in 2021. In March, the company had clinched a 70-mw grid-connected plant in Gujarat. It was won at Rs.2.21 per kwh in an auction by Gujarat Ujra Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL) who will also procure power under a 25-year PPA.
Another 100-mw solar power project at Dholera in Gujarat is under survey and investigation stage, it is reliably learnt.
SJVN, a joint venture between the Central and Himachal Pradesh governments, diversified into solar power in 2017. It set up its first solar plant—a 5.6-mw project at the Charanka solar park in Gujarat—in March 2017. Power generated is sold to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd, under a 25-year power purchase agreement.
