Skipper Ltd has announced its plans of entering the substation EPC business with a view to diversify its offerings in the power T&D space.
According to Sharan Bansal, Director, Skipper Ltd, the company has embarked on expanding its EPC capabilities beyond transmission lines to include substation EPC, which is an area offering significant margin potential and strong demand prospects.
Bansal added that the company was well positioned to secure its first major substation EPC order, marking an important milestone in the company’s corporate journey.
In Q3 (October to December) of FY25, Skipper received new orders worth Rs.1,318 crore taking its cumulative order inflows in FY25 to Rs.3,743 crore. The order inflow represents that of engineering product supplies and EPC works. Major orders were received during Q3FY25 from Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL), state electricity boards and private transmission service providers.
Skipper Ltd has three business divisions – engineering products, infrastructure, and polymer. Power T&D-related activities fall under the first two.
Commenting on the order inflow, Sharan Bansal said, “Securing large-scale contracts from prestigious clients such as the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) and private transmission operators further solidifies our position as a key player in India’s infrastructure development. These wins reinforce our ability to execute complex engineering projects with precision and reliability. As the nation moves towards strengthening its transmission and distribution network, Skipper remains fully committed to contributing to this transformative journey.”
As of December 31, 2024, Skipper’s outstanding order book stood at Rs.6,354 crore with domestic orders accounting for 89 per cent and export orders, the remaining 11 per cent.
When viewed from the business segment perspective, 66 per cent of the outstanding order book was from the domestic power T&D sector while 23 per cent represented domestic non-power T&D activities. The remaining 11 per cent came from export orders.
Non-power T&D activities typically include products related to telecom, railways, solar power, water EPC and steel structures.
