Sterlite Power Transmission Ltd has acquired project special purpose vehicle “Nangalbibra ─ Bongaigaon Transmission Ltd” from bid process coordinator PFC Consulting Ltd. Sterlite Power had won the associated transmission scheme under the TBCB mode in October this year.
The interstate transmission system (ISTS) scheme that will be implemented by Nangalbibra ─ Bongaigaon Transmission Ltd involves setting up of around 300 ckm of transmission lines and 320 MVA of substation (transformation) capacity across the northeastern states of Assam and Meghalaya.
The major elements associated with the project are:
The Nangalbibra–Bongaigaon transmission project will help evacuation of over 1,000 mw of power from Assam to western parts of Meghalaya. Apart from bringing the additional power flow, the project will also help decongest downstream networks in the region, thereby improving the quality and reliability of power flow in northeast India. It may be recalled that earlier this year, Sterlite Power completed the NER-II project spanning across the north-eastern states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Tripura. It may be mentioned that this project was subsequently acquired by IndiGrid.
