Sterlite Power Transmission Ltd has announced full completion of the Khargone transmission scheme in Madhya Pradesh, following the successful commissioning of the sixth and final project element.
The Khargone transmission scheme, with an estimated cost of Rs.1,662 crore, will help evacuation of electricity from NTPC’s 1,320-mw Khargone power plant in Madhya Pradesh.
Evacuation will be done first to the 765kV Khandwa substation, for further downstream transmission to across Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Goa, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu.
The sixth and final element was the 765kV double-circuit line from Khandwa Pool to Dhule, running about 383 ckm The first five elements, listed below, were fully commissioned during the period February 2018 to April 2020.
“With the completion of the 765kV D/C Khandwa – Dhule transmission line, all the elements in the project are complete and charged,” a statement from Sterlite Power said.
The sixth element—the 765kV Khandwa-Dhule line—faced right-of-way constraints. According to information available from Central Electricity Authority (CEA), this line had to be diverted as the originally planned route passed through the submergence area of the proposed Jamphal Dam in Dhule district, Maharashtra. Though the line was eventually rerouted, the developer had to seek fresh environmental and forest-related clearances. The transmission line, even after rerouting, faced resistance from local population, it is learnt.
