Tata Power Solar, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Power, has bagged an order of 300-mw solar project worth Rs.1,731 crore, inclusive of tax, from NHPC.
The project site, located in Rajasthan, will be developed under the CPSU scheme of IREDA. The project will be completed within 18 months, aims to reduce around 6,36,960 carbon emissions, and is expected to generate approximately 750 million kwh annually. Cells and modules made in India would be used in the project installation, Tata Power Solar said.
Speaking on the win, Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power, said “We are honoured to have won this significant project from NHPC. It underlines the industry’s confidence in our ability to develop and deliver world-class solar projects on time using state-of-the-art Indian technology”
With this win, Tata Power Solar’s pending order book reaches Rs.13,500 crore and the total utility-scale solar project portfolio touches 9.7GWp.
NHPC was allotted a 1,000 mw of solar projects by IREDA under the CPSU Scheme (Phase II, Tranche III) in September 2021. The total capacity will be spread over three sites – Gujarat (600 mw), Rajasthan (300 mw) and Andhra Pradesh (100 mw).
NHPC has finalized EPC contracts, aggregating around Rs.6,600 crore, for these three projects. Apart from Tata Power Solar that has won the 300-mw Rajasthan project contract, Adani Power Infra has clinched the 600-mw Gujarat EPC order, while the SSEL-ASR Joint Venture has bagged the 100-mw project in Andhra Pradesh, according to information received independently.
It is further learnt that the EPC contract, apart from building the solar project, will also include construction of the transmission line up to the respective ISTS substation, and O&M of the plant for a three-year period.
In the same solar auction, IREDA allotted a total of 5,000 mw of solar projects. While NHPC won 1,000 mw, NTPC was most successful bagging 1,990 mw. Other winners included SJVN (1,000 mw), NLC India (510 mw) and IRCON international (500 mw).
