Tata Power to complete 70 pc of under-construction transmission network in CY2025

Tata Power expects to complete nearly 70 per cent of its under-construction transmission line network during calendar year (CY) 2025.

According to Tata Power investor presentation, Tata Power is likely to commission 1,653 ckm of transmission lines spread across four projects during the period March 2025 to December 2025.

This accounts for 68 per cent of the total under-construction transmission network of 2,414 ckm that is distributed over six projects. (see table). The total outlay of the six projects is Rs.12,350 crore, out of which Rs.7,550 crore will be capitalized during 2025 from four projects.

 

 

The biggest transmission line of 732 ckm will be commissioned by South East UP Power Transmission Co Ltd (SEUPPTCL) that is developing an intrastate scheme in Uttar Pradesh. This company was acquired by Resurgent Power Ventures, in which Tata Power has 26 per cent equity stake. It may be mentioned that around 789 ckm of transmission line network of SEUPPTCL is already operational.

NRSS XXXVI Transmission Ltd, a multi-state ISTS-TBCB project, also owned by Resurgent Power Ventures, is scheduled to fully commission its project resulting in addition of 77 ckm of transmission lines. The overall project, covering Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Haryana, envisages a transmission network of 305 ckm of which 225 ckm is already operational.

Speaking of greenfield TBCB projects, Tata Power has a portfolio of four such, including one intrastate (InSTS) and three interstate (ISTS). During the remaining months of 2025, Tata Power is likely to commission Jalpura Khurja Power Transmission Ltd, an InSTS-TBCB scheme in Uttar Pradesh and one Rajasthan-based ISTS-TBCB scheme housed under TP Bikaner III Neemrana II Transmission Ltd. These scheme will together augment Tata Power’s operational transmission line portfolio by around 2,300 ckm.

Two recent ISTS-TBCB acquisitions – Paradeep Transmission Ltd and ERES-XXXIX Power Transmission Ltd – are scheduled to commission by November 2026 and December 2027, respectively. Both these projects are located in Odisha and entail a combined outlay of Rs.4800 crore.

As of December 31, 2024, Tata Power had a power transmission portfolio of 7,047 ckm, including 4,633 ckm of operational lines and 2,414 ckm under construction. By the end of 2025, Tata Power’s operational power transmission line portfolio is seen growing to around 6,286 ckm.
