Tata Power: Transmission portfolio crosses 6,250 ckm

The power transmission portfolio of Tata Power has crossed 6,250 km as of March 31, 2024, the company said in a release announcing its FY24 financial results.

Tata Power said that its power transmission portfolio, as of March 31, 2024, stood at 6,277 ckm, including 1,651 ckm under construction.

During FY24, Tata Power won its first set of power transmission development projects, under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) route:

Tata Power will be investing around Rs.2,300 crore in developing these two projects, including Rs.1,500 crore  for the Bikaner-Neemrana project that will create infrastructure for evacuating 7.7 GW of renewable energy from the Bikaner complex in Rajasthan.

On the power distribution side, Tata Power (along with its group companies) crossed the milestone of 10 lakh smart meters across its distribution areas in Mumbai, Delhi and Odisha. Tata Power aims to cross the 15-lakh mark by end of FY25, with a planned capital expenditure of Rs.760 crore.

In FY24, the company signed a contract with Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Ltd (CSPDCL) to implement a smart metering project worth Rs.1,744 crore.

Meanwhile, in FY24 the four Odisha discoms of Tata Power witnessed a reduction in AT&C losses (excluding past arrears) to 18.8 per cent in FY24 from 21.5 per cent in FY23.

Commenting on the company’s performance, Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Power, said, “The Odisha Discoms have demonstrated the success of the Public Private Partnership model and are now profitable within a short span of three years. We are well-poised to take on newer power distribution opportunities once they open for privatization.”
