Techno Electric & Engineering Company Ltd (TEECL) has re-entered the power transmission development space by announcing the winning of an ISTS-TBCB scheme.
In a stock exchange filing, TEECL said that it has won the bid under tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) to establish an interstate transmission system scheme housed under “NERES XVI Power Transmission Ltd.”
The project is officially termed as “Transmission scheme for North Eastern Region Expansion Scheme-XVI” or “NERES-XVI”.
As already reported by T&D India on April 11, 2024, bid process coordinator REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL) was expected to soon announce the winners of at least five ISTS-TBCB projects, including NERES XVI Power Transmission Ltd.
T&D India learns that TEECL was in the final race for NERES XVI with two other bidders – Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) and Sterlite Power.
The transmission elements to be developed under NERES-XVI include the 400/220/132kV Gogamukh substation in Assam, four line bays of 400kV, two line bays of 220kV and four line bays of 132kV. The project is envisaged for completion within 30 months from the date of transfer of project SPV “NERES XVI Power Transmission Ltd,” currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of RECPDCL, to TEECL. TEECL envisages a total revenue generation of Rs.1,750 crore during the concession period, the filing said.
Re-entry in ISTS-TBCB space
As per information available with T&D India, Techno Electric & Engineering Company Ltd (TEECL) had won three ISTS-TBCB schemes during the period 2017 to 2011. For some of these projects, Techno Electric had bid in consortium with other partners like Kalpataru Projects International Ltd (then Kalpataru Power Transmission) and BS Transmission. However, all these three projects were eventually sold to other developers like Apraava Energy and India Grid Trust. The three project in question are: Kohima-Mariani Transmission Ltd, Patran Transmission and Raichur Sholapur Transmission Company Ltd.
NERES XVI therefore marks a re-entry of TEECL in the power transmission development space, under the TBCB mode.
