Torrent Power has announced the award of a turnkey contract to Suzlon Energy, for a wind power project in Karnataka.
In a stock exchange filing, Torrent Power announced that it has awarded the turnkey contract for constructing a 300-MW wind power plant in Karnataka to Suzlon. Torrent Power won this project through a competitive bidding process conducted by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) under Tranche XII.
The PPA for this project was signed in March 2023 and the project is scheduled to commission in March 2025.
Without specifying the order value, Torrent Power said “Torrent has experience working with Suzlon in the past for its wind projects and has technically preferred Suzlon for the 300-mw project based on its latest and more efficient 3-MW wind turbine generators with a rotor diameter of 144m.
Torrent Power currently has an aggregate installed generation capacity of around 4.1 GW, which consists largely of clean generation sources such as gas (2.7 GW) and renewables (1.07 GW). It also has a capacity of 0.4 GW of renewable generation plants under development apart from the 300-MW wind project just awarded.
In line with its sustainability commitments and the Government’s aim to achieve 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, Torrent’s growth focus in power generation remains on renewables as it continues to add further capacity to its portfolio. With a balanced wind and solar portfolio, it is also working on other green energy pathways of pumped hydro and green hydrogen, the filing said.
