Torrent Power has recorded lower T&D losses in most of its licensed and franchised distribution areas during the first half (H1: April to September) of FY25.
As can be seen in the table alongside, T&D losses in the Ahmedabad/Gandhinagar licensed area fell from 6.30 per cent in H1FY24 to 4.50 per cent in H1FY25. Likewise, in the Dadra Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu licensed area the comparable metrics were 1.67 per cent and 1.62 per cent. In H1FY25, these two areas accounted for around 62 per cent of the total electricity purchased by Torrent Power in its overall distribution business.
In the franchised areas, T&D losses were lower in H1FY25, vis-à-vis H1FY24, in all areas except Bhiwandi in Maharashtra where they rose from 9.9 per cent in H1FY24 to 10.9 per cent in H1FY25.

In an investor presentation, Torrent Power noted that it was evaluating brownfield opportunities (acquisitions) with a view to strengthening its presence in the power transmission development space. This apart, the company would continue to selectively participate in greenfield ISTS and InSTS projects being awarded under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) route.
It may be recalled that Torrent Power debuted in the ISTS-TBCB space by winning “Solapur Transmission Ltd” in March 2024. This project, taking shape in Maharashtra, involves setting up a new pooling station at Solapur and a 400kV double-circuit line, running around 44km, connecting this upcoming pooling station to PGCIL’s existing substation at Solapur.
This Rs.470-crore project is currently under physical execution, and is scheduled to complete in FY26.
Meanwhile, Torrent Power Grid Ltd (a 74:26 joint venture between Torrent Power and PGCIL) is also developing an ISTS project under the regulated tariff mechanism (RTM) mode. This project is related to 4.5 GW RE evacuation from Khavda region in Gujarat. The project entails a 400kV double-circuit line running 60 km, and bay upgradation works. Estimated to cost Rs.800 crore, this ISTS scheme is likely to commission by March 2025.
Torrent Power currently has an operational transmission line portfolio of around 483 km comprising 400kV and 220kV double-circuit lines. This entire portfolio falls under Torrent Power Grid Ltd.

Note: Torrent Power is also a distribution licensee in the Dholera Special Investment Region in Gujarat where commercial operations began in the second half of FY24. As such, this area has not been considered in the given table and aggregate T&D loss calculation. The overall T&D loss has been calculated as a weighted average where weights have been assigned to electricity purchase.
