Transrail successfully commissions its first substation project

Adani

Transrail Lighting Ltd has crossed a new milestone in its power T&D contracting journey with the commissioning of its very first substation project. A very seasoned player in the power transmission tower and conductoring business, Transrail recently ventured into related areas like substations and railway electrification.

Transrail’s first substation—a 220kV asset located at Gendpur in Chhattisgarh—was commissioned recently. The company was awarded a turnkey contract for engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of a 220/132/33kV substation at Gendpur in Kawardha district. The order was placed by state utility Chhattisgarh Power Transmission Company Ltd.

In November 2016, the Chhattisgarh state power transmission utility had placed an order on Transrail for three 220kV substations. The Gendpur substation is the first of the three. While the second is scheduled for commissioning in October this year, the third would be completed by November/December.

Commenting on the successful commissioning of the substation, D.C. Bagde, Managing Director, Transrail Lighting Ltd said, “This successful and on-time charging of 220kV substation is testimony of Transrail’s capabilities of providing state-of-the-art turnkey solutions for transmission projects. With this, Transrail has established capabilities of providing complete EPC services for substation projects also.”

For the Chhattisgarh substation projects, Transrail also undertook substation automation based on latest IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) standards including application software, hardware and network installation.

Substations in Madhya Pradesh

Following the substation wins in Chhattisgarh, the company, in August 2017, also landed orders for two 400kV substations from Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Ltd. The work on these two substations is currently underway and commissioning is expected before the scheduled completion date, a Transrail spokesperson told T&D India.

“With planned capacity addition, opportunities in substation are significant and we see good traction in this segment in our overall business. We continue to leverage our existing infrastructure, over three decades of experience and competencies to deliver complex projects in T&D, substation and railways.” according to D Suryanarayana, Head – Domestic Business.
