Wärtsilä to commission 30-mw power plant for Oil India by November 2022

The 30-mw power plant that technology group Wärtsilä has been mandated to supply to Oil India Ltd on EPC basis, is targeted for commissioning by November 2022.
The ground breaking ceremony for the captive power plant was held on April 21, 2021. The plant, located at Duliajan in Assam, once commissioned, will be the main source of power for OIL’s facility at Duliajan, which does not have connection to the grid. It caters power to LPG bottling cum extraction facility, gas gathering station, the entire OIL township and other critical loads.
International bidding
Wärtsilä won this project through international competitive bidding (ICB) process. Significantly greater open cycle efficiency and reduced emission levels of the IC Engine solution was a factor in the final decision. After following the entire ICB process, Wärtsilä was issued the letter of award (LoA) on January 11, 2021.
Continuous gas analyser
The plant will operate with three Wärtsilä W20V34SG gas engines running on natural gas fuel from OIL’s captive gas fields. Since there can be variations in the quality of the gas supply from these fields, Wärtsilä will provide a continuous gas analyser system which will automatically tune the engines as per fuel quality. Operational reliability and plant availability will be supported by a multi-year Wärtsilä maintenance agreement.
Reliable electricity supply
“This plant will form the backbone of Oil India’s power supply to the surrounding area/facilities and township. The Wärtsilä solution, backed with our long-term maintenance agreement, will enable extremely high plant availability to deliver a thoroughly reliable electricity supply,” said Henri van Boxtel, Energy Business Director, South Asia, Wärtsilä, in a release.
Over 3,500 mw in India

In the Marine market, Wärtsilä has delivered a broad range of solutions to various marine segments, including Navy, Coast Guard, Port Trusts, Merchant Shipping, floating cranes and offshore rigs, the Wärtsilä release observed.
